Consent Form
You are invited to participate in a survey, titled “Describing Yourself in Your Own Words.” The study is being conducted by Cathleen Chen (Psychology Undergraduate), cathleenchen2011@gmail.com, Cindy K. Chung (Postdoctoral Fellow) cindyk.chung@mail.utexas.edu, Professor James W. Pennebaker (Professor of Psychology) pennebaker@mail.utexas.edu of The University of Texas at Austin.
The purpose of this study is to examine how people describe their personality as a function of different demographic factors such as age, sex, background, and culture. Your participation in the survey will contribute to a better understanding of self-identity across many demographic domains. If you decide to participate you will be asked to complete a 15- minute writing task about your personality and complete a couple of questionnaires related to your background and well being. The entire study should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Please feel free to contact the investigators at the email addresses above if you'd like to discuss the study.
Risks to participants are considered minimal. There will be no costs for participating, nor will you benefit from participating. There are no direct benefits to participating although your answers will help contribute to a better understanding of self-identity. No identifiable information will be collected and linked to your responses in any way. A limited number of research team members will have access to the data during collection.
Your participation in this survey is voluntary. You may decline to answer any question and you have the right to withdraw from participation at any time without penalty.
